Sharp launched four new smartphones, two of which are equipped with 5G technology

Sharp launched four new smartphones

Sharp has revealed four new smartphones for the Japanese market, all based on the Snapdragon chipset - two models that commit to LTE technology while the other two support 5G connectivity.

The base name of the Sharp zero5G is misleading, as it is, in fact, an excellent model. The 6.4-inch OLED screen has a refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, it supports HDR and resolution of 1080p +, and below there is an integrated fingerprint reader.

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 765G chipset, paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There will also be an 8/128 GB option in the phone launch in the coming months. The phone is running Android 10.

On the back, we started with the main 48MP (f / 1.8) camera. It is paired with a 13.1MP wide camera (125 °) and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x (79mm) zoom. The selfie camera has a 16.3MP sensor.

Like its three siblings, the flagship Zero5G is IP68 / IPX5 which is water and dust resistant. Its 4,050mAh battery is smaller and there is no mention of the charging speed.

Next comes Sharp Sense4, which also forms the basis of the remaining two models. This device is very small by current standards with a 5.8 inch screen (1080p +, IGZO card). The fingerprint reader at the bottom of the screen noticed that it was a design element we hadn't seen in years. If you put your finger on it and hold it for a few seconds, the wireless drive will activate.

Sense4 is powered by the Snapdragon 720G chipset, which provides more than double the performance of the previous model, says Sharp (Sense3 is based on the S630 chip). The new model comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The back houses a 12MP (f / 2.0) ultra-fast main camera, 12MP (121 °), and an 8MP telephoto lens with 2x (53mm) zoom. On the front, an 8MP selfie camera that lives up to its standard.

Sharp Sense4 is equipped with a 4,570 mAh battery (note this number). The phone will be available before the end of the year in light copper, silver and black colors.

Sharp Sense4 Plus is very small - it measures 6.7 inches. It's not an IGZO card, but it does have a refresh rate of 90Hz and a touch sampling rate of 120Hz. The fingerprint reader is rolled back, which is a more reasonable design.

The chipset is the same, the S720G, but the Plus model has double the RAM and storage - 8GB and 128GB respectively. However, the battery capacity drops to 4,120 mAh, despite the larger chassis.

The camera is a mixed bag. The main sniper gets a larger 48MP sensor behind a brighter f / 1.8 lens. However, the ultra-fast camera reduces the resolution to 5 megapixels and the field of view to 115 degrees. It is better than the zoom camera which completely disappeared and replaced it with 2 megapixels (macro and depth). The selfie camera also has a 2MP depth sensor.

Sharp Sense5G is basically a 5G version of Sense4. Changing the chipset, the Snapdragon 690 is clearly chosen for the function. You get the same 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for the LTE version, but the storage is now UFS, which will provide faster read and write operations.

Interestingly, this model should be released with Android 11 ready for use, while the twin 4G will start with the 10. The screen, camera and battery are the same between the two.

All four of the new Sense phones will be available in the fall.
